my 15 yr old son has a hard lump behind his right ear no health insurance?
I just noticed my 15 yr old has a hard lump behind his right ear on or near his mastoid.
Its not red, or tender, nor does it move. He says it doesn’t hurt at all and he has absolutely no other symptoms
we don’t have insurance but i have a registration appointment at the community health clinic (income based) in mid march. However they will not see him until after this appointment.
My question is this: can my son wait until march or is this something i need to investigate now?
i know its hard to say and i am left in a dilemma because i am very concerned I am a divorced mom of 4 i can barely feed my kids
a Dr’s visit would really hurt us financially but i am fearful for my son.
My daughter had the same thing, lymph nodes. It stayed around for a really long time. They’re harmless from what I remember. I’m sure he’ll be fine until March. Google lymph nodes.
Sorry your going through a rough time- you’ll get through it, and you’ll be a stronger woman because of it. Good luck!!!
Have you seen the social worker who comes in during the week at the Salvation Army, The social workers usually have certain hours at your local Salvation Army thrift stores. If anyone can help you out, they can, they will help with food, and electric bills and clothing. The grocery stores in our area take all the day old bread and cakes, and pies to the salvation army, boxes and boxes of bread and food, and it is perfectly all right, after all, who eats and entire loaf of bread in a day, we all eat day old bread if you think about it. Everyone is able to take three things, a cake, a pie, a loaf of bread or some rolls. And you can get free clothing for your four children, after Christmas, a lot of people do not return gifts that do not fit, they just take them to the salvation army.
I have seen coats that look like new, and many stores are closing down now because of the economy, what they do not sell, they bring to the thrift shops, I have seen really nice sweaters with the tags still on them.
Also have you talked to the school nurse about your son, she can probably tell you (and this depends on state your school is in) if the lump should be seen immediately. A call from her to your community health clinic, just might speed things up, at least it’s worth a try.
Some schools will sign up children for a free breakfast, and a reduced lunch, I would talk to your childrens principal about that.
My daughter in law was married before and had two children, and their father kept moving around and quiting his job, so he would not have to pay child support, so she applied for help from the state. Well he finally decided to settle down with a woman he met onling and he got a good job, and the state went after him. Now he is paying 600 a month. I would look into this. You can apply for food stamps also, and be persistant, they turn you down the first two or three times you apply.
As long as he has no ear problems, no fever or chills or other symptoms he should be o.k. but if I were you I would call the community health clinic this next week and ask if anyone has canceled an appointment for the next few weeks and see if you can move your appointment up due to your son having a health concern.
You might also ask if there are any other free or low income clinics in your area that you could use until you see them. Sometimes churches have clinics or different organizations have them to help people.
I am assuming you have already applied for food stamps but if not please make sure you do.
I also know there are many Churches and other organizations that give out food usually on a monthly basis. In our area you can get help from the Salvation Army for canned / boxed food and also help paying utility bills. They also allow you to get several clothing outfits per person in the family from their store.
Check them out to see what help you can get. I believe you probably have to have a pay statement of your income, maybe your W2 form and a copy of your utility bills.
The Goodwill also allows you to get clothes.
Many Churches provide food and if you bring copy of pay statements or any income you receive and maybe this years W2 along with your utility bills some Churches even help with those. You just have to call Churches to see which one helps. Some of them provide a valchur for a local grocery store and some provide a volchur for gas.
Keep your head up and don’t be ashamed to ask for help. Do this for your children. You and your children will be in my prayers.
