I recently had otoplasty (in March 2008) and I could not be happier. I wear my hair up ALL the time and I never would have before. I always wore my hair down, even on hot summer days and as a dancer, I hated performing only because I have to wear my hair up. If this is something you really want, GO FOR IT! The pain is not bad at all, at least for me it wasn't. You will have to wear a bandage around your head for about once week, this will be very difficult to hide but once the bandage is off, you can wear your hair down until the swelling has gone down, but there usually isn't much. I don't think anyone will notice you have had the surgery done if they have never seen your ears before. That was the case for me at least. Honestly, the only people who could tell were my family and my dance team since they were the only ones who had seen my ears before. Well, I know I rambled a lot but I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions. The surgery made me so much more confident and I know it will do the same for you too!

hi...i am 18 years old from Singapore...
Unfortunately and sad enough i am those minorities who have prominent ears...
I really dislike alot and did some research about it...
But i dun think mine is genetically de...

Unlike most gals can tied up hair happily on hot weathers,i dont...cos i still wanna look good.so i can only have my hair down most of the time unless at home...=(
i would admit that it's really bothering me alot.

Though my bf and other ppl says i look nicer with my hair tied up...but cos they neva see my ears sticking out ma.I use the method of "binding" or "hiding" my ears under my tied hair so my ears cant be seen. Recently i also thought of having a more layered hair but...no choice but got to stick to my long and thick hairstyle...

Of course i wanna go for a Otoplasty...but being a student i dun have that kinda of money...=(
i really wanna go for that...for all it takes.
Day and nights i have been dreaming that i could have my ears pinned back...

I also never mentioed to my parents before cos i dun wanna them be sad and for sure they also cant affort de.
Everytime on train i would admire everyone who have nice ears...
aww~ i am very sad.i wanna tied my hair outside...but only those who in our shoes can understand nia...who will?

Honestly, its better you consult a specialist to find out what's best for your mom. I really want to help but I don't think I can give better answers than specialist do. Sorry.

good luck

Love is omnipresence, Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

The surgery takes about an hour and a half. If you are interested in actually seeing the procedure, go here:

You misunderstand the different types of anethetic I think. You can have general anesthesia, without having a tube put down your throat. A local anesthetic would only deaden sensation in the immediate area of your ear- you would still be fully awake. "Twilight" anesthesia usually refers to the use of nitrous oxide to relax you, and is more commonly used in dental procedures when a patient is terrified of the needles or something. Neither is really useful in the procedure you are looking at. General anesthesia in your case would most likely involve giving you medication through an intravenous line, and you would drift off to sleep just as you naturally do. It is a nice deep sleep, during which you don't feel any pain at all, and have no memory of anything that happens. Then the doctor is free to do whatever is needed, without having to worry about giving you pain. Also, local anesthetics are tricky to use on the face, and you might need more anesthetic than would be safe to give. You would not need to have a "tube" down your throat at all, unless there were problems with breathing that occured. In that case, you might need to be intubated, but that is generally removed before you wake up in recovery. You would not wake up with a tube in your throat at all. And even if it did become necessary, chances are good you would never realize it was even done at all. I work in post op recovery, and I've seen that happen before. At any rate, you will discuss all of the procedure with the surgeon and anesthesiologist before the procedure is done. You can certainly bring up your concerns then. But do consider that these are people who are trained to do the job, and know how to do the best job for you- but only if you trust them to do it and let them do it. Don't get yourself all worked up over the anesthesia. Everyone has a bit of fear with that, and honestly it's not that bad. Just trust your doctors know their jobs, and will do their best for you. Lots of folks have surgery every day, and they all discover the fear was a lot worse than the actual procedure. Good luck, and hope you like the new ears.

Plastic surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her breast reduction, tummy tuck and facelift surgery in India by the company called Forerunners Healthcare .The Price for the surgery she paid in India was very less. She paid 30% of the cost she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. They arrange cosmetic and plastic surgery for foreigners in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as the breast reduction, tummy tuck, facelift and other cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

If medication is not helping your ear problem, and your quality of life is deteriorating, then get the operation. I had ear surgery for a broken ear drum. I lost 20% of my hearing in one ear (maybe more throughout the years now). Could've been worse without the surgery. I've lived with it now for 20+ years, and I can hear just fine. Just don't whisper in my bad ear.
